I am very privileged to have witnessed the growth of New Hope Community Services ('NHCS') from its inception. At its humble beginning, Pastor Andrew Khoo launched NHCS literally with nothing except a clear vision and a burning passion to reach out to needy people who have no roof over their heads and nowhere to call home. Since then, NHCS has braved through challenges to become a credible and well established organization today. It has touched and changed the lives of hundreds of homeless families and men-in-crisis. Till date, NHCS has provided shelter and assistance to more than 250 displaced families, and 150 displaced adults and men-in-crisis.
In expanding its core services to needy people, the shelter coverage was extended from the North to include the South and East of Singapore. As a result, NHCS was also able to cater to the displaced families who need to stay in these regions. In addition, as the organization established itself, NHCS formed partnerships with Boys Brigade and One Singapore to provide monthly food ration to the needy. NHCS also collaborated with YMCA to provide financial assistance to needy Singaporeans. To motivate and engage the residents staying in the shelters, NHCS organized a retreat and assisted them to form a football team, by the name Team Hope, among many activities. For the former residents who still require assistance, NHCS continues to provide them with food ration and other administrative support.
To support its expanded core services and to cater to the growing pool of needy people, there are now 10 case managers in total who can best engage, understand and assist the needs of the displaced families, individual men/women and men-in-crisis.
Like any organization, NHCS is not perfect. But along the way and in every way, we learn and seek to improve and excel in fulfilling our mission objectives. New Hope is not only a name or slogan, but a helping hand that we have been offering to people who are at the end of the ropes in search of a secured home and life. In the years ahead, we hope more organizations will join us in our simple but noble vision, that is, to give the Shelter of Hope to needy individuals and families. I sincerely believe that under the capable leadership of Pastor Andrew Khoo and his caring staff, NHCS will continue to make positive and long-lasting impact in the lives of people whom we serve.
We serve because they deserve!
On behalf of the Board Members,
Pastor Steven Thanigasalam S/O Kannan
